New year, New skin: 5 habits for healthy skin

With the new year upon us, one of your resolutions may be to improve your skin.

Whether you’re trying to get rid of spots, or just be more conscious about the products that you’re using on your face, there are plenty of healthy habits that you can adopt for the best skin of your life in the new year.

To help you out, we’ve rounded up five of our favourite habits that everyone should follow for healthy skin.

Do you do any of these already?

Double cleanse your face every evening

Double-cleansing should be an important part of any skincare routine — especially if you’re someone who wears makeup on a daily basis.

Some people choose to use the same cleanser twice, to give their skin a deep clean and remove any unwanted skincare, pollution or dirt from their face that has built up throughout the day.

If you wear makeup, you might want to start with an oil-based cleanser to break down the makeup, and then follow up with a water-based cleanser to refresh the skin.

Be consistent with your skincare routine

You may have great skincare products and a great routine, but if you’re not following it consistently, you might not be seeing all the benefits.

No matter how simple or complex your routine is, make sure you follow it every morning and night, and before you know it, you’ll be seeing all of the results that the products promise.

Wear SPF

No matter how gloomy or miserable the day might be, you always need to be wearing SPF.

The sun’s harmful rays can be damaging to your skin, even on the cloudiest of days. To avoid sun damage and skin cancer, it’s important to never be without your favourite sunscreen.

Create a skincare routine for your skin type

Everyone’s skin type is completely different, so what works for someone else may not necessarily work for you.

In 2022, think about your skin’s needs and tailor your routine to fixing this. If you have dry skin, create a routine that’s hydrating and nourishing. If your skin is on the oilier side, create a routine using sebum-balancing, lightweight products.

Use a chemical exfoliant

Chemical exfoliants, like AHAs, BHAs and PHAs help to gently exfoliate the very top layer of your skin to reveal a glowing complexion — so could be the best way to get healthier skin in the new year.

Our top tip is that some acids are stronger than others, so make sure to pick one that’s suitable for your skin type.
