Skincare products that can be used when your skin is raw from a cold

It’s the time of year when cases of the common cold sky rocket. Not only does this make us feel lousy, our skin also suffers.

Repeated nose blowing leads to dry patches around the nose, which can progress into sore, red skin. To help you take care of this delicate area as you recover from your symptoms, we’ve put together a list of products that can be used when your skin is raw from a cold:

  • Creamy cleanser

Even when you’re feeling rough, it’s important to properly cleanse your skin twice a day. When your skin is drier, due to a cold, opt for a creamy cleanser over a more drying formula, such as those designed for people with acne prone skin.

A thick, creamy cleanser will hydrate the skin as it cleanses, helping to soothe and treat and dry patches.

  • Moisturizer

When it comes to treating painful, dry skin, a thick and heavy moisturizing cream will pack more of a punch than lighter lotions.

The thicker the cream is, the more successful it’ll be at trapping the water in your skin. Look out for products that contain ingredients such as shea butter, or glycerin.

  • Lip balms

Not only do lip balms include the usual butters, waxes, and vegetable oils, but also contain active ingredients that provide immediate relief for dryness.

These ingredients have therapeutic properties that help to soothe and moisturize the lips, and they will also have the same effect on the skin around your nose. Lip balms can even be used to heal cracked finger tips!

  • Oils

If you’re lucky enough not to suffer from spots, consider using a facial oil to treat the skin around your nose. The oil acts as a barrier on the skin, helping to prevent moisture loss. An additional perk is that a facial oil can make your skin look more plump

  • Serum

A moisturizing serum can do wonders at helping to give your skin a little extra boost when hydration levels are lacking. Look out for products that contain ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides.

As a final note, avoid taking very hot showers or baths when you’re suffering from dry skin, as this can further exasperate the problem and worsen dry patches.
